The atmosphere in this small basement restaurant was incredible. It was a really fun experience. The staff was very nice and spoke enough English for us to order. Quality of the food was amazing. If this is your first gyukatsu do some research on how to eat it (mix your yams with the rice, etc) and then come and enjoy this amazing place

Pretty neat experience. The staff was very attentive and provided an English menu. When the food came out, she provided an explanation. The meat itself is good and you can cook it to your liking. The three side dishes were also very delicious. The restaurant is on the basement floor so please take the stairs to go down. We came around 12:30pm on a Wednesday and there was no line.

A Flavor Explosion Worth Every Minute of the Wait Tucked away down a flight of stairs in Nishi-Shinjuku, Gyukatsu Motomura is a hidden gem that every tonkatsu enthusiast must experience. This unassuming eatery delivers some of the most succulent, flavorful gyukatsu (breaded and deep-fried beef cutlet) I've ever had the pleasure of devouring. The set meals are a steal, offering a generous portion of perfectly cooked gyukatsu alongside a steaming bowl of miso soup, a mound of fluffy rice, and a tantalizing array of sauces that elevate the dining experience to new heights. The star of the show, however, is undoubtedly the gyukatsu itself. Each bite is a symphony of textures and flavors, with a crispy golden exterior giving way to tender, melt-in-your-mouth beef that's cooked to perfection. Be prepared to wait, as this popular spot attracts a loyal following. The small space and limited seating mean lines can form quickly, especially during peak hours. Our advice? Arrive early to snag a spot and witness the culinary magic unfold before your eyes. Upon entering, you'll be greeted by the alluring aroma of sizzling meat and the sight of diners grilling their gyukatsu on personal tabletop grills. This interactive element adds a touch of fun and allows you to customize the doneness of your cutlet to your liking. A word of caution: the grilling process can get a bit smoky, so be mindful of your clothing. The restaurant staff are incredibly accommodating and multilingual, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone. One important note: photography is limited to your food only. So, put away your cameras and phones, and focus on savoring every delectable bite of this unforgettable culinary adventure. Gyukatsu Motomura (Nishi-Shinjuku Branch) is a must-visit for anyone seeking a truly exceptional tonkatsu experience in Tokyo. The combination of delectable flavors, interactive dining, and a cozy atmosphere makes it a standout destination that will leave you craving more.

Food was good. Different concept. They half cook the beef and you cook the rest on a hot stone. Potato salad tasty, meat flavorful lightly breaded. Soup hearty. Be sure to make a reservation. Not worth the 2 hr wait.

Gyukatsu Motomura Nishi-Shinjuku is a really nice experience for eating gyukatsu in Tokyo. The meat is very soft and delicious, cooked just right, and you can grill it yourself on the small stone which is quite fun. This place is quite popular, so expect some waiting time, but the flow is organized and moves faster than I expected. The portion is satisfying and everything comes hot and fresh. If you are around Shinjuku and looking for gyukatsu, this place is worth trying. I will definitely come back again when I visit Shinjuku next time.

Worth the queue! Beef was superb. Place may be very small but service was swift and fast. A bit smoky so your shirt may smell after the meal. Remember that you have to order sets by number of pax in your party.
